DETROIT (AP) — Honda is recalling more than three quarters of a million vehicles in the U.S. because a faulty sensor may cause the front passenger air bags to inflate when they're not supposed to. Also included are the 2021 and 2022 Civic hatchback, the 2021 Civic Type R and Insight, and the 2020 and 2021 CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, Passport, Ridgeline and Accord Hybrid. Affected models from the Acura luxury brand include the 2020 and 2022 MDX, the 2020 through 2022 RDX and the 2020 and 2021 TLX. Documents posted Tuesday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say that the front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, and fail to turn off the air bag as intended. Dealers will replace the seat sensors at no cost to owners.

CNN —Honda is recalling almost 250,000 vehicles due to a manufacturing error that may damage the engine. 2018 and 2019 Honda Odysseys, 2016, 2018 and 2019 Pilots, and Ridgelines manufactured between 2017 and 2019 are also potentially affected. This recall brings the number of Honda vehicles recalled in 2023 up to more than three million. Honda said owners will be notified by letter in early January, and that dealers will inspect, repair and replace the engines for free. Vehicle owners can find out if their car is included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.acura.com or www.recalls.honda.com.

Tesla is offering cars well below September's new car average transaction price of $47,899. Tesla's base Model 3 and Model Y are both less than that. Last month, new cars saw an average transaction price (ATP) of $47,899, according to Kelley Blue Book. New car prices have slowly but surely been improving as of late, but are still pretty costly. AdvertisementAdvertisementTo be sure, new car pricing is relatively flat year-over-year (down just $360 from September last year), while used car pricing is more nuanced.

I ignored my Dad's advice about saving money and investing until I saw him retire a decade before his peers. Then I watched my Dad retire at least a decade before many of his peers, and my entire perspective changed. My stepmom, on the other hand, never had plans to retire early until she started dating my Dad. Invest aggressively ... and diversifyLike most people, a 401(k) was central to my parents' retirement plan. Because they wanted to retire early, my parents had to have other investments they could rely on for retirement income.

The auto research firm JD Power assessed dozens of vehicle brands for its latest quality study. The overall quality of new vehicles is deteriorating and nagging problems are on the rise, according to a new study from JD Power. "The basic touch point of door handles is now a percolating problem area as manufacturers attempt to redesign them," JD Power said. JD Power assigned a score to each auto brand based on problems per 100 vehicles, and calculated an industry average of 192 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), up from 180 in 2022. In terms of vehicles themselves, the Nissan Maxima had the highest initial quality overall, with 106 problems per 100 vehicles, according to the survey.

No one was killed or injured in the early hour blasts in Washington's Northeast neighborhood, but all three places were damaged, police said in a statement. In one of the blasts, someone threw "a Molotov cocktail style object" at a Safeway store before fleeing in a vehicle, police said. The suspect's back was turned to the surveillance camera in that image and the face was not visible. In an editorial column last year, the Washington Post said that the regularity of violence and crime in Washington was "alarming" and posed a "serious problem." HONDA/Handout via REUTERSMARYSVILLE, Ohio, March 3 (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co (7267.T) is moving rapidly to catch up with electric-vehicle competitors in global markets, but the company's top executive said combustion engines could last through 2040 and beyond. Regarding the Japanese automaker's accelerating transition to EVs, Chief Executive Toshihiro Mibe said, “I’ve been in the engine development business for more than 30 years, so personally it’s a little threatening. Yet the average sticker for base models, adjusted for inflation, has actually gone down a little — even as consumers have shifted from sedans to more expensive SUVs. That’s good news for drivers willing to go no-frills: If you don’t want to pay lots of a new car, you don’t have to. It has a base price of $15,730. These base price models may not make much money, if any, for automakers. The average price of a GMC Sierra 2500 HD, as sold, is now double the base price.

The gap in reliability scores between luxury brands and those for mass market brands such as Kia were the widest in the 34 years that J.D. Power sets Tesla aside from other brands in the rankings because the electric vehicle maker doesn't provide it with full access to information about owners. Other luxury brands fared poorly, too. Infotainment systems complaints, such as problems with wireless Bluetooth phone connections, dragged down scores from vehicle owners of several luxury brands, according to the report. Even as luxury brands compete to offer more advanced digital content and dashboard features, luxury vehicle owners are finding fault with the infotainment systems at about double the rate as owners of mass-market brands, Hanley said.
REUTERS/Kim Kyung-HoonWASHINGTON, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co (7267.T) on Friday issued a "Do Not Drive" warning for 8,200 model year Acura and Honda vehicles with unrepaired Takata air bag inflators in the United States. The urgent warning covers various 2001-2003 model year Honda Accord, Civic CR-V and Odyssey, Pilot and Acura 3.2CL and 3.2 TL vehicles with so-called "Alpha" inflators. More than 30 deaths worldwide - including at least 23 U.S. fatalities - and hundreds of injuries in various automakers' vehicles since 2009 are linked to Takata air bag inflators that can explode, unleashing potentially deadly metal shrapnel inside vehicles. NHTSA said last month a February death of the driver of a 2002 Accord in Bowling Green, Kentucky, was due to a faulty air bag inflator. In November, Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLA.MI) urged owners of 276,000 older U.S. vehicles to immediately stop driving after three crash deaths tied to faulty Takata air bag inflators were reported.
"I think we're all building this airplane as we fly," Michael Alford, president of the National Auto Dealers Association, a trade association that represents more than 16,000 U.S. new franchised dealers, told CNBC. Automakers and franchised dealers have a complex relationship that is backed, in many states, by laws that make it difficult, if not illegal, to bypass franchised dealers and sell new vehicles directly to consumers. Both automakers and franchised dealers want to maximize profits, but they're separate businesses that heavily rely on one another to succeed. David Paul Morris | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesHonda Motor has said it plans to move more sales online, including 100% online sales for its luxury Acura brand for EVs. Jay Vijayan, who assisted in building out Tesla's digital and IT systems, doesn't believe selling EVs exclusively online will pan out.

GAC will continue to provide after-sales services to Acura customers in China through the joint venture's network, it said in a statement to Reuters. The joint venture will continue to produce other Honda brands. Acura is the second foreign car brand to exit China, the world's largest auto market, in recent months. In October GAC said it was closing its joint venture with Stellantis (STLA.MI), which made Jeep vehicles, following a sharp decline in Jeep sales in China over the past four years. GAC-Honda, which started producing Acura cars in 2016 in China, only sold 6,554 of them in the country in 2021, down 45% from the previous year.
Easing supply chain crises mean more vehicles on lots, used vehicle prices are down, and demand is normalizing. "There's really not a lot of ways to escape them unless you are willing to change the car that you're buying," Drury said. As far as luxury cars go, there aren't many deals to be found, he added. Used cars are displayed on the sales lot at Marin Acura in July 2021. Car-buyers might find a used vehicle could suit their needs while they hold out for lower prices surrounding new vehicles.

Wall Street is grappling with the "revenge of the old economy" as tech and growth stocks crash.
Sony Honda Mobility said on Thursday it was aiming to deliver the first of the unnamed EV by 2026, starting in the United States, and will sell them online. Honda has about 1,100 Honda dealers and 270 Acura dealers. "I get teaming up with Sony, but it should be done in conjunction with the dealer network, not outside it," he added. Sony Honda officials promised the vehicle - to be built at one of Honda's Ohio plants - will include advanced driver-assist features and a new software system developed by Sony that offers cloud-connected services that generate recurring revenue. Sony Honda officials declined to say under what brand the vehicle will be sold.
TOKYO, Oct 13 (Reuters) - A joint venture set up by Japan's Sony Group Corp (6758.T) and Honda Motor (7267.T) is aiming to deliver its first electric vehicles by 2026 and will sell them online, starting in the United States and Japan. The update from the joint venture, Sony Honda Mobility, is the first since the two companies launched the project in June. Sony will provide the software system for the new car, from the onboard controllers to cloud-based services that will connect with entertainment and payment systems. The still-to-be named EV will likely be manufactured by Honda at one of its plants in Ohio. The new EV will be delivered to the Japanese market in the second half of 2026.
